'The Glory'
In 2022 I had the opportunity to participate in the 360° gallery of Project 22 and Art in Space in Dubai.
The dynamic was that 22 artists from all over the world made a piece with the 2022 FIFA World Cup organized in Qatar.
So I started the project thinking about what could be a very distinctive object of the competition to use as the centerpiece of my work. After some thinking, I came to the idea of using the trophy... The World Cup itself. The greatest prize in football; a global, cultural icon. It is the dream of any professional player to raise and celebrate with this object.
Original and contemporary trophy designs
The original trophy depicted the winged figure Nike, Greek goddess of victory. The current trophy, introduced in 1974, is made of 18 carat gold, and shows a football globe held up by a man and a woman.
With this information I started to create my psychedelic and spatial version creating an amalgam between the design of both trophies.
